Werder sign Youri Regeer on loan from Ajax

SV Werder Bremen have strengthened their midfield with the signing of Youri Regeer. The 23-year-old has joined on loan from Ajax until the end of the season, as head of professional football Peter Niemeyer confirmed on Monday.
“We’ve been keeping an eye on Youri for some time, so we’re delighted that the opportunity has now come up to bring him to Werder,” explained Peter Niemeyer, head of professional football at SV Werder Bremen. “He’s a very versatile player who is strong defensively, which gives us additional tactical options.”
Head coach Daniel Thioune is also pleased to have another option at his disposal: “I saw Youri play live this summer and was impressed by what I saw. He’s a well-rounded player who operates mainly in central midfield and reads the game well. He made more than 30 appearances for Ajax in the league and in Europe last season and will add further quality to our squad.”
Youri's first day in Bremen
“I had some really good conversations with the club. Bremen is a big club and the Bundesliga is one of the best leagues in the world. I’m looking forward to what’s ahead and, above all, to getting to know the team and the fans,” said new signing Youri Regeer.
The 23-year-old began playing football at SV Zandvoort before spending time with Rijnsburgse Boys and ADO Den Haag. He joined Ajax’s academy in 2017 and went on to break into their first team. The former Netherlands youth international moved to FC Twente in 2023 before returning to Ajax in 2025.
