Deadline-day arrival Moussa Ndiaye, who has joined on loan from RSC Anderlecht, discusses his first few days at Werder, why he decided to make the move to Bremen and his previous experience of German football. The new left-back also speaks about his excitement at playing in front of the Werder fans, his love of Naruto and what he hopes to achieve with the Green-Whites.

WERDER.DE: Moussa, welcome to Bremen!

Moussa Ndiaye: Thank you!

WERDER.DE: You were still playing for RSC Anderlecht at the weekend and now, just a few days later, you’re here in Bremen. What have the last few days been like?

Moussa Ndiaye: They’ve been pretty hectic. I trained yesterday and then had a five-hour journey afterwards. But everything’s fine and I’m feeling good. I’m really happy and delighted to be here.

WERDER.DE: Why did you decide to join Werder Bremen?

Moussa Ndiaye: Werder are a big club. It’s a big step for me and one I’m really excited about. I’m here to help the team and the club and to finish as high up the table as we possibly can.

WERDER.DE: You already know German football from your time at FC Schalke 04, where you won promotion to the Bundesliga last season. Did the chance to take that next step into the Bundesliga appeal to you as well?

Moussa Ndiaye: Yes, definitely. I already gained some experience of German football during my time at Schalke, so I know a bit about what to expect. I think I’m ready for this new challenge and I want to see what I can do in the Bundesliga.

WERDER.DE: You played alongside Ludwig Augustinsson and Thomas Delaney at Anderlecht. Did you speak to either of them about your move to Bremen?

Moussa Ndiaye: Yes, I spoke to Ludwig Augustinsson a little. He told me quite a bit about Werder and the club and had a lot of good things to say about Bremen. I already knew a bit about Werder anyway. When I first started following German football, I watched plenty of games, so I was already familiar with the club. I think it’s a good move for me.

WERDER.DE: During your time at Schalke, you often spoke very positively about the fan culture in Germany. Are you looking forward to meeting the Werder fans and playing your first home game at the Weserstadion?

Moussa Ndiaye: Of course! I’m really looking forward to my first game. Having a good connection with the fans is very important to me. I’ll see them at the stadium soon.

WERDER.DE: We’ve seen that you’re a big fan of the anime series Naruto. What do you like so much about it?

Moussa Ndiaye: I really like Naruto. I like the character, the series and all the adventures. A big part of the story is about fighting, developing and always wanting to reach the next level.

WERDER.DE: You play at left-back. How would you describe yourself as a player?

Moussa Ndiaye: I like having the ball. When I get it, I want to get forward and try to create something. At the same time, I always want to win it back quickly when we lose it. I want to support the players ahead of me and help the team get into the final third.

WERDER.DE: You’re now starting a new chapter in Bremen. What do you want to achieve in your first season at Werder?

Moussa Ndiaye: I’m here to show what I can do and help Werder. I want to take the next step together with the team and play my part in making us successful. I’m ready for it.

WERDER.DE: Thanks for speaking to us and all the best for your start at Werder!
