Sugawara handed two-match ban

The DFB’s sports court has handed Yukinari Sugawara a two-match suspension. The Japan international will therefore miss the final game of the season against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, 16th May 2026.
Sugawara was shown a red card in the fifth minute of the away game at TSG Hoffenheim after his challenge on Bazoumana Touré was deemed serious foul play. Referee Sören Storks initially judged the incident to be a foul, but dismissed Werder’s number 3 following a VAR review. Sugawara and Werder have accepted the verdict, which is now final.
