Leon Opitz will spend the 2026/27 season with VfL Osnabrück. The midfielder has joined the newly promoted second-tier side on loan from SV Werder Bremen, as confirmed by Peter Niemeyer, Werder’s head of professional football, on Friday.

“Leon has had a challenging year, so we hope he can get back into a regular playing rhythm at VfL Osnabrück. VfL are an ambitious promoted club and one we already know very well from several loan deals. We therefore know that it will be a good environment for Leon to continue his development,” explained Niemeyer.

Leon Opitz spent last season on loan at Karlsruher SC, making 13 appearances and registering one assist. The midfielder, who was born in Bad Oldesloe and can also play out wide, joined Werder Bremen from Hamburger SV in 2020 and went on to progress through various age groups in SVW’s academy.
