Third-choice goalkeeper Markus Kolke has extended his contract at SV Werder Bremen, as announced by Peter Niemeyer, the club’s head of professional football, on Tuesday afternoon.

“Markus has been here for two years now and has done a great job here in that time, both on and off the pitch. He has done exactly what we expected of him and we’re delighted to now continue to work together at Werder,” said Niemeyer.

Christian Vander, SVW’s goalkeeping coach, added that Kolke is an important figure within the club’s goalkeeping team. “Kolle brings his experience to the work we do here on a daily basis,” he said. “He gives 100 percent in every session and does a lot of work to prepare and analyse each session. He’s therefore also a role model for our younger players. He’s an important figure within our goalkeeping team and helps to maintain a high standard within the group.”

The 35-year-old is also looking forward to remaining a Green-White. “I chose to join Werder Bremen two years ago, and this decision has proven to be the right call. My family and I feel at home here in Bremen and at the club. As a result, I’m very pleased to be staying at the club.”

Kolke joined the Green-Whites in summer 2024 from Hansa Rostock. He is yet to feature for the club’s first team, but has been named in the Bundesliga matchday squad on 12 occasions so far.
