Japan secured an emphatic 4-0 victory over Tunisia in their second group game. Daichi Kamada (4’), Ayase Ueda (31’, 84’) and Junya Ito (69’) got the goals, while Werder loanee Yukinari Sugawara came on in the 74th minute.
The Samurai Blue dominated throughout in Monterrey, Mexico. Kamada opened the scoring after just four minutes with a clever backheel before Japan doubled their lead prior to half time when Ueda made the most of the space available following a quick counter.
Ito effectively put the game beyond Tunisia in the 69th minute, rounding off a superb team move to make it 3-0. Sugawara was introduced shortly afterwards, replacing Eintracht Frankfurt’s Ritsu Doan following the drinks break (74’). The Werder full-back was on the pitch when Ueda headed home his second of the game to wrap up the victory (84’).
The win moves Japan level on points with the Netherlands and up to second place in Group F. They face Sweden in their final group game on Friday, 26th June at 01:00 CEST.
