Monday morning saw Werder set off for their first summer training camp in Zillertal, where Daniel Thioune’s side will continue their preparations for the 2026/27 Bundesliga season until Sunday. A total of 29 players boarded the flight south from Bremen.

While Marco Friedl, Romano Schmid, Alexander Schlager (all Austria) and Cedric Itten (Switzerland) are still enjoying some time off following their World Cup campaigns, U19 EURO participants Patrice Čović (Croatia) and Mick Schmetgens (Germany) are back with the squad. Darwin Soylu, Luca Höcker, Mats Heitmann, Stefan Smarkalev, Paul Erevbenagie and Ramiz Hamouda have all recently been training with the first team, while 16-year-old academy goalkeeper Calvin Seidler will also make the trip to Austria.

Mitchell Weiser and Julian Malatini are expected to be gradually reintegrated into team training over the course of the week as they continue their recoveries from long-term injuries. Meanwhile, Keke Topp (ACL tear) and Skelly Alvero (illness) remain unavailable. Alongside the various training sessions, Werder supporters can look forward to two friendlies at the Parkstadion in Zell am Ziller, first against Fagiano Okayama on Wednesday, 22nd July (17:30 CEST) and then versus VfL Bochum on Saturday, 25th July (13:00 CEST).
