There has been a change to the backroom staff at Werder Bremen, shortly after the start of pre-season preparations. Björn Schierenbeck, the Green-Whites' long-serving head of the WERDER Academy and, most recently, top talent coordinator, is leaving the club. He has spent the last two decades working in a variety of roles within the WERDER Academy following the end of his playing career. Schierenbeck will now become head of academy at 2. Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg.

"Björn came to us with the desire to take on this new challenge. It wasn't an easy decision because we value Björn highly, both professionally and personally, but we wanted to give him the opportunity to take this step. Björn has done an excellent job for Werder over many years, and we are extremely grateful for everything he has contributed. We wish him nothing but the very best in his new role. We already have a clear profile for the position and will take the necessary care in appointing a successor," said Clemens Fritz, Werder’s managing director for sport.

"The new role at Wolfsburg will be a brilliant challenge for me, but also a huge step, as I've spent more than 30 years at Werder. I'm incredibly grateful to the club and everyone responsible for everything I've experienced here and for the opportunity to help shape the club in so many different roles," said Björn Schierenbeck.
