FIRST FRIENDLY MATCHES ALREADY CONFIRMED

The SV Werder Bremen first team have now broken up for the summer break. Until the start of July, head coach Daniel Thioune and his team will have time to recover from the season just gone and recharge ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

Things get back underway for the Green-Whites on Friday, 10th July 2026, and Saturday, 11th July 2026, with a series of performance diagnostics and medical tests. The first open training session will take place on Sunday, 12th July 2026, at the training pitches next to the Weserstadion.

The first friendly has also already been confirmed. Thanks to Werder’s main sponsor, Matthäi, it will follow tradition and take place in Verden, right in the heart of Werder country. On Saturday, 18th July 2026, the action will kick off at 15:00 CEST at the Stadion am Berliner Ring against hosts FC Verden 04. Ticketing information will follow in the coming weeks.

Two days later, Werder will head off to their training camp in Zillertal. From 20th to 26th July, the Green-Whites will stay at the DASPOSTHOTEL by ZillerSeasons in Zell am Ziller. It will be the club’s 15th visit to Tyrol.

Another friendly awaits SVW in early August. On Saturday, 1st August 2026, the team will travel to newly promoted second-division side FC Energie Cottbus for a fixture hosted by main sponsor Matthäi. Kick-off at the LEAG Energie Stadion is at 15:00 CEST. Further ticket details will be announced in due course.

A few days later, SV Werder Bremen will head into a second training camp. From 10th to 14th August 2026, the Green-Whites will fine-tune their preparations in Harsewinkel. The camp will take place behind closed doors.

“We are aware that this period falls right in the holiday period, and that many fans would have liked to join us. However, the local conditions do not allow it, and the coaching staff will also be working in great tactical and technical detail, so the squad can focus in peace. We aim to offer more opportunities for fan interaction in Zillertal and at the Fan Day,” explained Clemens Fritz, managing director for sport.

The competitive season begins at the end of August this year. The first round of the DFB-Pokal takes place from 21st to 24th August 2026, followed by the start of the Bundesliga campaign from 28th to 30th August 2026.

Further dates for pre-season will be announced in the near future.

There have definitely been a few seasons more enjoyable to look back upon than this one. The campaign just gone was certainly characterised more by the low points than the highlights. Despite that, though, there were a number of emotional moments from this campaign that will be hard to forget anytime soon. SV Werder Bremen gave everything once again, but still fell to a 2-0 defeat against Borussia Dortmund on matchday 34 of the Bundesliga season. Werder Bremen’s 2025/26 season will come to an end with today’s home game against Borussia Dortmund. For several players, it will also mark the end of their time at the club. Among them is Leonardo Bittencourt, who will leave the Green-Whites after seven years on the Weser. →

Give it everything against the runners-up

With their minds finally at ease, Werder can attempt to hit the limit one last time this campaign. The Green-Whites welcome Borussia Dortmund to the Weserstadion on Saturday, 16th May, at 15:30 CEST for matchday 34 of the current Bundesliga season. There are no longer any huge stakes attached to the meeting between these two giants of German football. Werder secured their top-flight status for another year last weekend, while BVB celebrated securing second place. Nevertheless, head coach Daniel Thioune’s side will be eager to head into the summer break on a high after back-to-back defeats, and could still climb a couple of places in the table with a positive result in front of the home crowd. SV Werder Bremen will host Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, 16.05.2026 (15:30 CEST) for their last game of the season. Head coach Daniel Thioune gave a final update on the squad at the pre-match press conference. "Job done" – Thioune looks to the future

At the point in time in which SV Werder’s status as a Bundesliga team for the 2026/27 season was confirmed, the Green-Whites had just landed back in Bremen from Sinsheim. The pilot kept the team up to date with the score in Wolfsburg throughout the flight, with FC Bayern München’s victory meaning SVW would play top-flight football again next term. Head coach Daniel Thioune expressed relief the following day, while also turning attention to preparations for the future. →

SVW’s Bundesliga survival confirmed

SV Werder Bremen have secured their Bundesliga status and will play in the German top division in the 2026/27 season as a result. Following Saturday’s results on matchday 33 of the season, SVW are mathematically safe from dropping into the bottom three places in the league. →

SV Werder Bremen produced a spirited performance in Hoffenheim but ultimately fell to a 1-0 defeat.
