Bundesliga fixtures released: season starts in Freiburg, November Nordderby at the Weserstadion

The Bundesliga released the fixture list for the 2026/27 season on Thursday morning, 2nd July. SV Werder will begin the new campaign away at SC Freiburg (30th/31st August), while RB Leipzig will visit the Weserstadion for the Green-Whites’ first home match of the season (4th–6th September). You can find all fixtures at a glance below.
The first Nordderby of the season against Hamburger SV will take place at the Weserstadion in November (20th–22nd November). The return fixture at the Volksparkstadion is scheduled for the weekend of 19th–21st March. Werder’s final match of the 2026 calendar year will be away at FC Bayern (18th–20th December), before the Green-Whites will hope to begin 2027 with a bang at home against 1. FC Union Berlin (8th–10th January). The final fixture of the season sees SVW travel to SV Elversberg on 22nd May 2027, with kick-off at 15:30 CEST.
The exact kick-off times for matchdays 1 to 4 are expected to be confirmed in the calendar week beginning 13th July.
Reactions to the fixture list
Head coach Daniel Thioune: “Freiburg is a special opener for me because it was also my first match as Werder head coach. It’s certainly a challenging start, facing last season’s Europa League finalists and then hosting Champions League participants RB Leipzig on matchday 2. But as a team we’re really looking forward to the challenges ahead. I’m already excited for the home Nordderby against HSV in November.”
Managing director for sport Clemens Fritz: “It’s an ambitious way to start the season. We would have preferred to begin with a home match, but we’ll prepare thoroughly for the new campaign in order to have a successful season.”
Head of professional football Peter Niemeyer: “The season really gets going straight away for us with matches against Freiburg and Leipzig. The opening run of fixtures before the international break will certainly test us. But we’re looking forward to the new campaign and will do everything possible to make a strong start.”
