Werder Bremen’s 2025/26 season will come to an end with today’s home game against Borussia Dortmund. For several players, it will also mark the end of their time at the club. Among them is Leonardo Bittencourt, who will leave the Green-Whites after seven years on the Weser.

Bittencourt initially joined Werder on loan from TSG Hoffenheim in the summer of 2019 before making the move permanent a year later. The now 32-year-old went on to make 188 competitive appearances for the club, scoring 20 goals along the way. Some of those strikes will live long in the memory, including his goal against Dortmund in the DFB-Pokal. His next step remains undecided.

Isaac Schmidt says goodbye, four players not quite yet

Alongside Leonardo Bittencourt, Isaac Schmidt was also officially bid farewell ahead of the match. Schmidt (Leeds United) is returning to his parent club, just like Maximilian Wöber (Leeds United) and Victor Boniface (Bayer 04 Leverkusen). Wöber and Boniface were unable to attend the farewell due to illness.

The quartet of loan players consisting of goalkeeper Karl Hein (Arsenal FC), Yukinari Sugawara (Southampton FC), Cameron Puertas (Al-Qadsiah FC) and Jovan Milošević (VfB Stuttgart) have not yet been officially bid farewell, as further discussions are still ongoing.

Meanwhile, Marita Hanke was honoured for more than 34 years of service to SVW. Hanke became the first female press officer in Bundesliga history during the 1990s. The 66-year-old will retire following the home match against Borussia Dortmund.

SV Werder Bremen wishes all of the players, as well as Marita, every success for the future!
