CLEMENS FRITZ REFLECTS ON TRAINING CAMP IN THE MIXED ZONE

The Green-Whites’ travelling party set off in the direction of home on Sunday morning. Before doing so, managing director for sport Clemens Fritz took the time to take questions from the journalists at Hotel MalisGarten. Fritz spoke about…
…the final evening together as a team: “We had a great evening and a lot of fun. After such an intense training camp, the lads deserved it. Everyone got involved with the singing – including the coach. In my eyes, everyone performed well.”
…his training camp verdict: “The young players stood their ground and showed their resilience. The Bochum friendly was a good way to round things off. We had a real desire to play and, as a team, we defended our goal well. It’s been a long time since we managed to head home with a clean sheet.”
…the winners and losers of the training camp: “There haven’t been any major surprises. Paul has done well throughout the whole week and had already performed well in Bremen. With him, though, it’s also important to put things into perspective and assess it properly. I liked the fact that everyone pulled together. So I don’t want to single anyone out.”
…transfer plans: “We are still trying to implement our plans. Of course, we have also noticed that one or two of the younger players have done well. Everyone has the opportunity to put themselves in the spotlight and make a case for themselves. Nevertheless, we are active in the transfer market and are holding talks.”
…the conditions: “The conditions were perfect – whether it was the hotel, the training pitches or the weather. I can’t remember us ever having such good weather here before. Now we’re looking forward to getting home, and the team will have a day off tomorrow.”
…Marco Friedl: “He has worn the captain’s armband for the last few years, and Daniel has already explained the situation in detail. I agree with what he said. The captaincy is a decision for the coach and the team – I don’t get involved in that.”
…the team’s stage of preparation: “I did feel that yesterday we showed we had taken a step forward compared to Wednesday. The recovery period did us good because we looked fresher and were more active. The lads implemented a number of things well and are currently in a good place. Of course, we’re not yet at the level needed to play 90 minutes of Bundesliga football. We still have plenty of work ahead of us. This is the foundation that we cannot afford to simply rest on.”
