Eren Dinkci has joined SV Werder Bremen from SC Freiburg on a season-long loan with immediate effect. Peter Niemeyer, Werder’s head of professional football, confirmed the move on Monday afternoon.

“Eren is a great lad and a very good footballer. We’re delighted that he’ll be playing for Werder over the coming year. He’s gained plenty of experience since leaving Bremen and has now made more than 100 Bundesliga appearances. He’ll be a real asset to the team both on and off the pitch. He's currently still dealing with some muscular problems and may not be available for the games against Lüneburg and Freiburg. He'll continue to build up his fitness this week and is expected to join team training next week. Even so, we have no doubts about the loan deal. Eren is from Bremen and knows the club very well, so he shouldn’t need much time to settle in,” said Niemeyer.

Head coach Daniel Thioune is also delighted to be bringing in a player he already knows well. “Pace is hugely important in the Bundesliga and Eren has plenty of it. He’ll add another dimension to our attacking play and give us more options going forward. He’s developed really well over the past few years. I took a close look at Eren during my time in Düsseldorf and know what a good player he is.”

For Eren Dinkci, returning to Werder is naturally a special moment: “Bremen is my hometown and this is the club where I became a professional, so I’m really happy to be back playing at the Weserstadion and for Werder. I’m really looking forward to meeting my new teammates and seeing our fans at the first home game. I’ll give everything I have to help Werder have a successful season.”

Eren Dinkci joined Werder’s U19s from SC Borgfeld in 2019 and made his first-team debut in 2020. After a loan spell at 1. FC Heidenheim, Dinkci moved to Freiburg in 2024 before returning to Heidenheim on loan midway through last season. The 24-year-old Bremen native has made 25 Bundesliga appearances for Werder, scoring once, while he has featured 47 times for Heidenheim and scored 13 goals. He has also played 31 Bundesliga games for SC Freiburg.
