SV Werder Bremen will host Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, 16.05.2026 (15:30 CEST) for their last game of the season. Head coach Daniel Thioune gave a final update on the squad at the pre-match press conference. Leonardo Bittencourt will be named in the squad, giving him the chance to receive an emotional send-off from the Werder fans.

In his final home game for Werder, the 32-year-old will be part of the team for the very last time. Since the derby win against Hamburger SV, Bittencourt has struggled with a muscle injury. Daniel Thioune expressed his happiness at Werder’s number 10 being fit enough to start on the bench: “Leo will return to the squad tomorrow. We can fit him into the squad. Given that he hasn’t trained this week, we’ll have to wait and see how long he’ll be able to play for. But it’ll be a fitting way for him to say goodbye, in a home game against BVB, where he started his career.”

Yukinari Sugawara will be absent for the Green-Whites due to suspension after being sent off in Hoffenheim. Maximilian Wöber will also miss the game on Saturday. “Maxi was ill at the start of the week. The illness means that he won’t be fit enough to make the squad.”

Karl Hein (thumb injury), Julian Malatini (syndesmosis tear in ankle), Keke Topp (cruciate ligament tear) and Mitchell Weiser (cruciate ligament tear) are still sidelined with long-term injuries.

Thioune also made it clear in the press conference that Salim Musah would start in the final game of the season, just as he did in Hoffenheim: “Salim will keep his spot in the starting line-up tomorrow.”
