SV Werder Bremen’s final away game of the 2025/26 season sees them travel to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim on Saturday afternoon (15:30 CEST). The Green-Whites will be hoping to secure safety with a strong performance in Sinsheim. Find the full match preview below.

Team news: Karl Hein (thumb injury), Julian Malatini (syndesmosis tear in ankle), Keke Topp (ACL, Leonardo Bittencourt (muscular injury) and Mitchell Weiser (ACL) are all still sidelined. Jens Stage remains a doubt for the moment, but is likely to be in the squad. Felix Agu could also make his return to the matchday squad.

Head coach Daniel Thioune on the opponent: “I’m looking forward to facing a team that wants to play football. Despite going through a difficult campaign last season, they have recovered well and even still have a chance of qualifying for the Champions League. Hoffenheim are one of the hardest-running sides in the division, and if you don’t match their level, then you’ll quickly find yourself heading home empty-handed. I expect Hoffenheim to come at us with a disciplined attacking display. They get a lot of shots away, put in a lot of crosses and have plenty of touches in the opposition box. Those are things we need to be alert to. When we have the ball, we need to stand up to their man-oriented approach. My team is absolutely capable of doing that. Then we’ll try to create danger through transition moments.”

Previous meetings: The match between the sides earlier this year had to be postponed in mid-January due to heavy snowfall. The Green-Whites then went on to lose 2-0 at home to TSG. They will have fonder memories of their most recent trip to Sinsheim, having come back to win 4-3 after trailing 3-0 early on. Jens Stage played a large part in the turnaround that day, netted a hat-trick.

The current state of the table: Provided that FC St. Pauli (26 points) fail to beat RB Leipzig and VfL Wolfsburg (also 26) don’t win against FC Bayern München, then Werder would be safe (32 points). The same scenario also applies if SVW manage to take points home with them from Sinsheim.

TSG can still record their best ever return: TSG Hoffenheim have secured a place in at least the UEFA Europa League next season, but still have a chance of qualifying for the Champions League. They currently have 58 points on the board, just four away from their record haul of 62 in 2016/17.

The officials: Sören Storks will take charge of Sunday’s match. His assistant will be Thorben Siewer and Nikolai Kimmeyer, along with fourth official Felix Wagner. Nicolas Winter and Frederick Assmuth will be on duty as the VARs.
