Jens Stage and Jovan Milošević celebrate

Jovan Milošević got his first taste of just how loud the Weserstadion can be on Friday evening. His goal in Werder’s 3-3 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt sent the stadium into a frenzy. For both the striker and the coaching staff, the game against Frankfurt marked another step in the right direction.

“We saw the qualities he brings,” said head coach Horst Steffen when asked about Milošević’s goal, adding: “Our hopes when we signed him were that he’d do exactly what he did today – score goals. His goal wasn’t as easy as it looked, as there were a number of players in front of him.”

Werder’s new number 19 also had his teammates’ fantastic build-up play to thank for his goal. A combination of Samuel Mbangula’s pass and Romano Schmid’s vision allowed the striker the space he needed to fire home. “It was a great ball from Samuel and a strong run from Romano. The build-up play made it easy for me to score,” the goalscorer said modestly.

The pure emotion inside the stadium meant that Milošević considers it to have been “one of the best moments of his life”. The Serbian added: “The fans were fantastic today. It’s such a good feeling to be playing in the Bundesliga.” He also believes that both he and his new team are on the right track: “We’re making progress and working hard in training. We all supported each other and fought hard against a good opponent. For me personally, it’s about integrating even better into the team. That’s the next job.”
