Werder are back in action against another direct rival this weekend, as 1. FSV Mainz 05 travel to the Weserstadion for a 15:30 CET kick-off against the Green-Whites. Head coach Daniel Thioune gave the latest news on SVW's available personnel heading into the clash with the 05ers in his press conference this morning.

Although there had been hope that centre-forward Jovan Milošević would return in time for this weekend's game, Werder will have to go without him on Sunday. The Serbia international suffered a back contusion in the home match against Heidenheim. "The pain hasn't subsided to the point that he's ready to be involved again," explained Thioune when asked about the attacker's fitness.

Karim Coulibaly (thigh injury), Maximilian Wöber (muscular issues), Amos Pieper (minor procedure) and Wesley Adeh (ligament tear) are all ruled out for this weekend. Mitchell Weiser (cruciate ligament tear) and Victor Boniface (knee surgery) are both suffering long-term injuries and remain unavailable.

Fans will be hoping to see two possible returnees to the side when Mainz come to town, with Felix Agu and Samuel Mbangula both on the verge of a return to fitness, although Thioune was unwilling to confirm whether the pair would be ready in time for Sunday. "They definitely won't be starting this week," he said, "although we'll make a decision on Saturday at the earliest as to whether they'll be in the squad or not. Neither of them have been fully reintegrated into team training yet. If they feel ready and we get the go-ahead from the medical staff, then they may play a role."
