It’s time for a home win. On matchday 24 of the Bundesliga, SV Werder welcome bottom side 1. FC Heidenheim to the Weserstadion on Saturday, 28th February 2026 (15:30 CET). In front of their home crowd, the Green-Whites are targeting maximum points not only to end their winless run, but also to pick up vital points in the battle to stay up.

Team news: Werder’s injury list grew again last week with Felix Agu (adductor) and Samuel Mbangula (thigh muscle) suffering new injuries. Agu picked up his injury in the warm-up at the Millerntor last weekend, while Mbangula couldn’t finish training on Wednesday. Both will be unavailable until further notice. Karim Coulibaly, Maximilian Wöber (muscular problems), Amos Pieper (minor surgical procedure), Wesley Adeh (ligament tear) and long-term absentees Mitchell Weiser (cruciate ligament tear) and Victor Boniface (knee surgery) are also not options.

Head coach Daniel Thioune on the opposition: “Anyone familiar with teams coached by Frank Schmidt knows that he always puts sides on the pitch that keep pushing until the very end. For Heidenheim, every season is about carrying on this dream of playing in the Bundesliga. I expect a team that will give everything until the moment they get back on the bus. It’s our job to make sure they don’t take anything home with them.” More quotes from the press conference.

Recent meetings: No current Bundesliga fixture involving SV Werder is as young as the one against Heidenheim. There have only been five meetings in Germany’s top flight since FCH were promoted to the Bundesliga in 2023. The visitors have won two of those games, with Werder winning one. Two matches have ended in a draw, including the reverse fixture earlier this season. On that occasion, Werder went ahead twice through Marco Grüll (50’) and Jens Stage (69’), but the hosts levelled it up via Stefan Schimmer (67’) and Jonas Föhrenbach (83’).

At the foot of the table: Across the last 11 matchdays, the team bottom of the table has managed just one win, with the opponents taking all three points on six occasions and the spoils being shared four times. This is now the third time this season that 17th face 18th.

The officials: Saturday’s game against 1. FC Heidenheim will be refereed by Florian Badstübner. He will be assisted by Markus Schüller and Philipp Hüwe, with Harm Osmers on duty as the fourth official. Patrick Hanslbauer and Markus Sinn will be in charge of VAR.
