The team celebrate together on the halfway line.

SV Werder Bremen are finally back to winning ways in the Bundesliga. The Green-Whites had to dig in and ride out a few tricky moments in their 2-0 home victory over 1. FC Heidenheim, but in the end they could breathe again as they put three points on the board. We’ve gathered all the key post-match reactions here.

Head coach Daniel Thioune: “I’m absolutely delighted with the win and that the team have rewarded themselves after that kind of rollercoaster of a game. They haven’t had that winning feeling for a long time, so I’m over the moon for them. The lads have had to take a lot on the chin, and today I want them to enjoy a win the way they’ve been frustrated by defeats recently. The team kept going and grew into the difficult moments. The stadium carried us through the tough spells. We’ve still plenty of work to come and we’re a long way from satisfied.”

Goalscorer Jovan Milošević: “It was a crazy afternoon. I don’t know what happened with my first chance. It was tough, but it happens. All my team mates picked me up and that made it easier. When I then scored my goal, it made it an even more special feeling. The fans were massive today and, for us, like a 12th man. We have to keep working with focus and play with confidence.”

Romano Schmid: “It was such a relief when you look at the chances we missed – whether it was me or Jovan. I went straight over to him after his chance and tried to make him feel better, and it was the same the other way round when I missed my big opportunity. At half time we said to each other: ‘Come on, we’re still going to win this game today.’ And that’s exactly how we have to carry on. Together as a team. We have to play like we did today – together with the fans. If we manage that, it’ll be tough for any team at the Weserstadion. That was a first important step, but we have to keep working.”

Managing director for sport Clemens Fritz: “For everyone in the stadium, it was definitely a tense game. We missed a lot of chances. Even so, I have to give the team huge credit. They could have fallen apart. But what I saw was a side that wanted to win together. We had good intensity and real belief. Today, they’ve finally rewarded themselves with a positive result. I’m glad the talk about the winless run is over, even if we still have a long way to go.”
