SV Werder Bremen’s game against TSG Hoffenheim, originally scheduled to take place on Saturday afternoon, will no longer take place due to adverse weather conditions. The German Football League (DFL) decided to postpone the match on Friday afternoon following in-depth conversations with both clubs, the stadium operator and the relevant authorities.
The reason for the postponement is a significant build-up of ice in the concourses, stands and thoroughfares at the Weserstadion, as well as sizeable snowdrifts across the grounds of the stadium. As a result, there is reduced access and, by extension, emergency and evacuation routes cannot be used safely.
Due to current forecasts, it cannot be guaranteed that conditions meeting the safety requirements of a Bundesliga game will be in place come the start of the match.
In light of slippery streets and cancellations of short- and long-distance means of transport, the safe arrival of stadium visitors also cannot be ensured.
The safety of all attendees, teams and officials, as well as service providers who are on duty when there’s a match at the Weserstadion, is at the forefront of this decision.
Information related to the rescheduled fixture and what to do with tickets for the game will follow in the next few days.
