Despite all the new developments surrounding the Coronavirus pandemic, there are also some footballing issues to be dealing with. An appearance for Jiri Pavlenka against Leverkusen will still be a bit too early for him. Philipp Bargfrede and Fin Bartels are, however, candidates for a return.

Keeper Jiri Pavlenka suffered a muscle strain against Eintracht Frankfurt, and had yet another MRI scan on Thursday as coach Florian Kohfeldt explained: “It was a planned control measure in the hope that he might be able to get back out on the training pitch on Monday. That’s not confirmed though, even if he is looking much better.”

Fin Bartels is back in full team training as is Philipp Bargfrede, both of whom are candidates for the Leverkusen game. Whilst Bartels is still being monitored on how he builds up strength in the coming training sessions, Bargfrede is “perhaps a candidate for even more,” said Kohfeldt.

Claudio Pizarro trained individually this week but will be back training with his teammates on Friday. Ömer Toprak will hopefully return to training after the international break after suffering a contusion.
