Hitting the ground running: Josh Sargent is forming a habit of scoring on his various debuts. It took the US international less than two minutes to score on his Werder debut against Fortuna Düsseldorf on Friday evening. In doing so, he set a new club record, having also scored on his Werder U23 debut against Eintracht Norderstedt. The young striker also has a similar record for his national side, having scored on his USA U20 debut and his debut for the first team, against Ecuador and Bolivia respectively. It seems that Sargent takes to new situations like a duck to water, and he’s still yet to make his debut in the DFB Pokal…

Feeling good: Davy Klaassen has been speaking to Werder about how he feels at home in Bremen since his transfer last summer: “I’ve felt good here since the beginning. The mentality in Bremen is a bit like in the Netherlands.”

Storming out the blocks: It took Kevin Möhwald just 20 minutes to score his first Bundesliga goal on his first Bundesliga start on Friday evening. Max Kruse laid the ball off and the midfielder smashed it into the back of the net, putting Werder into the lead. “I screamed my head off,” said the 25-year-old following the game.

Another first: Felix Beijmo was another player celebrating a first against Fortuna Düsseldorf, with his first inclusion in a Bundesliga squad. He didn’t come off the bench, but it’s another step in the right direction for the young defender.

Sharper: In the last few weeks, Werder have been lacking penetration slightly up front. However, the Green-Whites were getting more opportunities in front of goal against Düsseldorf. “We were sharper against Düsseldorf and put more balls in towards goal. We put them under pressure. The goal that made it 2-1 was a good example,” said Martin Harnik on Monday. His goal against Fortuna was his fourth goal of the season in all competitions. “As a striker, when you come on at 1-1, you know what you have to do,” added the forward.

Performance tests: The Werder players will be completing various performance tests on Monday and Tuesday this week. The first public training session will take place on Tuesday at 14:00 CET. The Green-Whites will then train privately on Thursday, before their final public training session on Friday at 13:00 CET.
