Worth it: Davy Klaassen has been named as one of the 11 best signings of the season, according to the Bundesliga. He’s had a strong start to life at Werder, getting two goals and two assists so far this season. The midfielder has also covered more ground than any other player in the league, running 84.1 miles. Klaassen was named as the eighth best signing of the summer according to Kicker, with Claudio Pizarro rated even higher. The Werder legend has two goals and two assists in the Bundesliga this season.

On the bench: After starting for his country last week, Florian Kainz watched Austria’s victory against Northern Ireland from the bench. Bosnia and Herzegovina won the Nations League group with ten points and will be promoted to League A. Austria finished second on seven points, whilst Northern Ireland were relegated to League C after finishing bottom.

Getting closer: There’s now only six days to go until Werder take on Freiburg this weekend. The team will be back on the training pitches on Wednesday, with a double training session (10:00 CET and 14:30 CET).

Celebrations: Former Werder player and manager Viktor Skripnik is celebrating his 49th birthday today. The current Riga FC manager won the double with Werder in 2004. Green-Whites legend Torsten Frings also celebrates his birthday this week, turning 42. He made 164 Bundesliga appearances for Werder and was also assistant manager.
