“Confidence comes naturally with good results”
DANIEL THIOUNE AHEAD OF THE HOME GAME AGAINST RB LEIPZIG
02/04/26
With the international break done and dusted, SV Werder Bremen are gearing up for another tough test in the Bundesliga. The Green-Whites will host RB Leipzig at the Weserstadion on Saturday, 4th April, with kick-off scheduled for 15:30 CEST. Werder head coach Daniel Thioune sat down for his press conference ahead of the affair, giving insights on a range of topics including...
...the international break: “It doesn’t hurt to slow down a bit at a time like this. I kept an eye on the boys who were off with their national teams. I was really pleased to see how successful they were. It was good to have the time here to work on finer points, and I also had the chance to have a lot of chats with the boys who are out injured.”
...Keke Topp being ruled out for an extended period: “He’s come to terms with the injury. If everything goes relatively smoothly, he should hopefully be back in action by the end of the calendar year. He has to focus on taking those small steps now, and I hope that he can recover well and come back stronger from the whole ordeal.”
...Victor Boniface: “First things first, it’s been nice to meet him properly and get to know him. We’ve been speaking for a while. He’s made it clear to us that he wants to play his role in helping us stay up this season. It gives us another option, but there’s no chance of any involvement this weekend. We’re coming up against a few teams of a similar level to us over the next few weeks, and so if Victor is able to play a few minutes here and there, then that’s something that could be really useful, something we can definitely benefit from.”

...the upcoming opponent, RB Leipzig: “I’m looking forward to the affair. It’s the first time we’re up against a team from the top third of the league table since the game against Bayern. We’re going to have to deal with a team that has real attacking prowess. They create a lot of chances for themselves, and they have a lot of pace in the side. From our standpoint, it’s about picking up where we left off. We’ve taken a step forward in our defensive work, we allow our opponents a lot less, and we need to prevent Leipzig from having a sniff as much as we possibly can.”
...a newfound sense of confidence: “Confidence comes naturally with good results. The lads were also really successful with their various national sides over this break, and so they’ll be returning to Bremen with a good feeling and a hunger for more of the same. If we can play with that passion when we’re on the ball against Leipzig, we can produce something of an upset.”
...ex-Bremen boss Ole Werner: “He led Werder back to the Bundesliga and did great things here in the years following that. It will definitely be an emotional day, when he comes back to this place. Despite all the emotion, though, we’re focused on making sure we pick up more points here this weekend.”
