Despite a moment of joy in the dying seconds of the game, a sense of disappointment still prevailed after the final whistle blew. Keke Topp struck deep into stoppage time to earn SV Werder Bremen a point in a 1-1 draw against Borussia Mönchengladbach, though the result still left the Green-Whites dissatisfied.
Head coach Horst Steffen: “We would have liked to have taken all three points, and we had the opportunities to do so. The first half wasn’t good from either side, but in the second, we felt we could really make something happen. After conceding, we shook it off well and then found our rhythm again. We created plenty of chances, and in the end, we’re glad to have experienced a moment of joy that the team deserved and worked hard for.”
Goalscorer Keke Topp: “The frustration still outweighs anything else. We wanted three points today. We weren't effective enough in the final third, and we need to turn up our performance over the 90 minutes and added time. We need to keep working hard and play with the quality we've got."
Senne Lynen: “We can be happy with this point. You have to say, though, that we had a lot of good opportunities in the final third, which could even have seen us win today, and we were hoping for three points here. We conceded too easily, we need to hold firm for longer.”
Managing director for sport Clemens Fritz: “We're disappointed. I saw two teams out there who looked like they were lacking in confidence, and neither of whom were playing their best game. We believed we could get something out of it at the end, and we were rewarded. We know that we need wins, though."
