SV Werder Bremen have appointed Daniel Thioune as the club's new head coach, as shared on Wednesday by Clemens Fritz, SVW's managing director for sport.
"Our meetings with Daniel all went very well. His understanding of football, along with his character and his approach to our current sporting situation were all key factors in our decision. We are convinced that we will manage to turn things around with him in charge," said Fritz.
Thioune is looking forward to taking up the position at the Green-Whites. "I'm very much looking forward to working with the team and I'm convinced that we will manage to be successful together, in order to achieve the goals that the club have set. Following productive talks with the club's management, I quickly knew that I wanted to come to Werder."
The 51-year-old was most recently in charge of Fortuna Düsseldorf, having previously taken up a position as head coach at Hamburger SV and VfL Osnabrück. Thioune will take charge of his first training session with the Green-Whites this afternoon at 14:00 CET. Assistant coach Jan Hoepner will also join Thioune's coaching staff, having previously worked alongside him at Fortuna Düsseldorf.
