SV Werder Bremen are looking to take three points from their rearranged fixture against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim on Tuesday evening (27th January, 20:30 CET). Read our match preview to find out which players are available to feature, why Jens Stage will have fond memories of coming up against TSG in the past and why this fixture guarantees goals.

Team news: Leonardo Bittencourt (knock), Niklas Stark (hip), Maximilian Wöber (muscle problems), Mitchell Weiser (ACL) and Victor Boniface (knee surgery) all remain unavailable. Head coach Horst Steffen will also be without Isaac Schmidt (concussion) and Felix Agu (match practice). Captain Marco Friedl is suspended after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season, while Amos Pieper is a doubt after being forced off against Leverkusen with a wound that later required stitches.

Head coach Horst Steffen on the opponent: "Hoffenheim are really impressive in terms of the way they play. They press really proactively and retain the ball really well. They run a lot, and they play with a real intensity. We’ve got a tough challenge ahead of us, that’s for sure. I’m optimistic that despite the absences we’re dealing with, we can put out a strong team that can hurt Hoffenheim."

Recent meetings: These two sides last met in February 2025, as TSG won 3-1 at the Weserstadion on matchday 22 of the 2024/25 season. The Green-Whites came out on top of the last meeting in Sinsheim, despite trailing 3-0 inside the opening 12 minutes. Werder fought their way back into the game courtesy of a goal from Julian Malatini and a brace from Jens Stage, before the Dane completed his hat-trick in the second half to secure a memorable 4-3 win for SVW.

Goals guaranteed: Werder and Hoffenheim have met on 32 occasions in the Bundesliga, with the Green-Whites winning 12 of these clashes to TSG's 10 (also D10). A total of 112 goals have been scored across these meetings, 55 of which have been scored by Werder and 57 by Hoffenheim, at an average of 3.5 goals per game. Marko Arnautovic and Sejad Salihovic have scored the most goals of any players in this match-up (both 5). The 0-0 draw between the sides in 2008/09 remains the only time this fixture has ended goalless.

A game in hand: SVW will be seeking to take this chance to move up the table, prior to this weekend's matches. A win would take the Green-Whites from 15th to 10th place in the table, in addition to potentially opening up a lead of at least five points over the relegation zone.
