What a game! Werder celebrated a 3- 2 win away at Fortuna Düsseldorf on matchday 2 of the 2. Bundesliga season. After heading into the break 1-0 up thanks to Josh Sargent (39’), Düsseldorf’s Rouwen Hennings was able to equalise immediately after the change of ends (47’). Sargent then restored Werder’s lead (64’). Deep into added time, Narey leveled the scores yet again (90’+4) as the game looked set to end in a draw. Referee Daniel Schalger then awarded Werder a penalty, with Maximilian Eggestein stepping up to conver t  the game-winner (90’+6).

Line-up and formation: Head coach Markus Anfang made two changes to the side that opened the season against Hannover 96. Romano Schmid and Marco Friedl replaced Felix Agu and Anthony Jung, with the latter not included in the matchday squad due to the bith of his child. Werder started the match in a 4-1-4-1 formation.

Subs: Dos Santos Haesler – Möhwald, J. Eggestein, Park, Agu, Gruev, Woltemade, Groß und Dinkci.

16th min.: Hennings finds space down the wing and plays in a cross to Narey, whose header sails wide of goal. A wake-up call for Werder!
18th min.: Another chance for Fortuna. Former Werder man Hartherz plays in a cross to Piotrowski, but he heads wide. Another close call!
28th min: So close to the opener for Werder! Schmidt fights to win the ball off Bodzek and finds Füllkrug in the area, but his shot is blocked at the last minute by Prib.
39th min: Werder lead! Schmid’s shot is parried by Kastenmeier, and the rebound falls to Sargent, who buries it in at the near post.

47th min.: Rouwen Hennings equalises for Fortuna Düsseldorf from a header immediately after the restart.
64th min.: Sargent heads Werder back in front!
80th min.:So close to a hat-trick for Sargent, but the goal is disallowed due to an offside in the build up.
82nd min.: Pribs' cross turns into a shot that nearly beats Zetterer, but he’s able to get back and tip it over the bar.
90‘+4 min.: Narey nets a late equaliser. Kastenmeier plays a long ball that Werder struggle to clear. Narey is able to poke it home.
90‘+6 min.: Unbelievable! It’s 3-2 to Werder! Mbom is brought down in the box and the referee points to the spot. Maxi Eggestein steps up and coolly converts the game-winner!
90‘+9 min.: Our first win of the season!

Summary:  Wow! What a game! Düsseldorf put Werder under pressure for much of the match, but the Green-Whites were able to create chances of their own. Incredible scenes in added time as the match looked set to end in a draw before a late winnr for Werder.
