It’s a simple answer for Markus Anfang when asked how Werder performed against Dresden on Sunday afternoon: it was an unconvincing performance and they deserved to lose. “If we don't improve in defence, we won’t pick up many points,” said the Werder head coach at full-time.

Markus Anfang: “We didn’t play well. We didn’t make strong challenges, we were unconvincing in attack, we were too timid during the game and made too many individual errors. You won’t win a 2. Bundesliga game if you play like that. Dresden stuck to what they know and took their chances when they came. We deserve this defeat.
Milos Veljkovic: “We started poorly, above all in the first 15 or 20 minutes, we weren’t putting up much of a fight. Dresden were aggressive and pressed us for the whole game and overall they were the better team. We need to take a look at ourselves.”
Nicolai Rapp: “We weren’t good enough today and deserved to lose. We need to go back to the basics, and play with a better mindset, with more passion and desire.”
Markus Anfang: “We know it’s going to be tough, but it’s normal to encounter obstacles. But we cannot keep using the process or our young team as an excuse. The lads are capable of more, but we just didn’t achieve that today, even though that is what we set out to do. It’s not the first game where we were wasteful with our chances and everyone needs to take a good look at themselves.”
Milos Veljkovic: “We need to take it game by game. We were on a good run but now we’ve lost two in a row. We need to be get stuck in and put in a better performance next weekend.”
