It’s been an intense few days at SV Werder Bremen, “at times even turbulent” said Frank Baumann in a press conference on Tuesday afternoon. …the events that happened last Saturday: “Danijel Zenkovic and the team did well to deal with the difficult situation on Saturday. The team reacted well and didn’t show that they had been affected by what had happened in the previous 24 hours.”
…Danijel Zenkovic testing positive for Covid-19: “Danijel acted very professionally on Saturday. It’s too bad that he won’t be able to be there this weekend due to testing positive for Covid-19. The most important thing is that his symptoms are mild and that he recovers quickly.”
…the upcoming away game in Kiel and Christian Brand: “Christian Brand will likely accompany the team on Saturday, unless we find a new head coach before then. We have full confidence in Christian Brand, who has been a coach at the club for many years now. Christian has over 14 years’ experience as a coach, most recently in the youth sector, but he’s also worked at the professional level. He can also draw from his former career as a player. He has been successful and worked well together with Cedric Makiadi at the academy level.”
…the ongoing search for a new head coach: “Since Saturday, we have been focused on finding a new head coach and have already led many discussions. We want to find a solution as quickly as possible, but it also has to be the right one which is why we’re acting with care. We won’t comment on individuals. At the moment, there’s more than one candidate.”
…Marco Friedl returning to training: “He’s doing well, but the Coronavirus can have a real impact on the body. He completed parts of training today in order to give his cardiovascular system a bit of a heavier workout than in recent days. That went well and I assume that he will take part in training again tomorrow. Whether or not he’s an option to start against Kiel remains to be see, but I assume that he will definitely be part of the squad.”
