Florian Kohfeldt and his team could not hide their joy after the 2-0 win against Augsburg. “In terms of the table, it was an incredibly important game for us,” said Werder’s head coach after the victory. There was also a lot of praise for the goalscorers.

On the game:

Florian Kohfeldt: “In the first half, we didn't do well with the ball. Our basic game plan was to make sure we didn't make any mistakes and get a solid footing in the match, which was based on our experience of the last few home games. That's what we discussed this week and what we took away from the Leverkusen game. We wanted to focus on our stability. In terms of the table it was an incredibly important game for us. We were aiming to create more chances as the game progressed and then take our chances to get the victory. A plan like that won't go well every time, but today it worked perfectly. It wasn't pretty but it worked and we deserved the victory.”

Felix Agu: “Right from the start, we set out to get a solid foothold on the game. In the second half we decided to press them higher up the pitch and be more active in attack. That worked well in the end.”

Theodor Gebre Selassie: “We waited and kept our shape well. We knew that we would get our chance sooner or later. At half time we said that one goal would be enough to decide this game. It's a very important three points for us, even if our football wasn't necessarily very easy on the eye.”

On Felix Agu’s goal:

Florian Kohfeldt: “I'm incredibly happy for him. He's had a tough six months, not because of anything he’s done but because of his infection with the coronavirus. He hasn't played much, but he's trained very well. He's a great lad and I think a lot of him. Today he got his reward for all of his hard work. it won't be the last time that we see him celebrating in this stadium!”

Felix Agu: “Ever since I arrived here, my goal has been to develop my game and get more playing time. I couldn't have dreamed that I would score a goal and get an assist on my full debut though. The rest of the boys made it very easy for me. They told me from the beginning to just play my game and it got easier by the minute. It made me laugh a bit because I didn't get a clean connection with the ball at all, but when it went in I just felt pure joy!”

Theodor Gebre Selassie: “I'm really happy for him, he had a great game. It hasn't been an easy couple of months for him, so it's really nice that he's been able to get a goal today.”

On the challenges ahead:

Florian Kohfeldt: “We still have a lot of home games left this season and I intend us to win as many as possible. As I said several times before the game, it's a unique set of circumstances for all teams this year and you can see that when you look at the league. We have to develop as a team so that we can consistently perform in games from the very beginning just like we did today.”

Theodor Gebre Selassie: “We have to focus on ourselves and make sure we keep picking up points. It's been a tricky season so far but we have to keep going.”
