An emphatic start to the game wasn’t enough in the end for Werder to pick up their first win in six Bundesliga matches. Despite the early 2-0 lead, Florian Kohfeldt’s side were unable to keep up their performance from the first 20 minutes for the rest of the game. “It feels like a defeat. We definitely dropped two points today,” said Kohfeldt after the final whistle.

On the game:

Niklas Moisander: “We started the game perfectly then just stopped playing football after 20 minutes. That was our biggest problem. We didn’t continue our performance throughout the entire game. We’ll take the point, but that’s simply not enough in our situation.”

Davy Klaassen: “The first 20 minutes were really good. Then we just sat back. I don’t know why that happened. After that we completely lost our dominance. Overall we only really played well for a short period of the game. That’s not good enough. It feels like a loss.”

Kevin Vogt: “There were too many things that we did wrong. Our mistakes allowed the opponent to get back into the game. Playing simple football was the reason we were successful at the start. Instead of continuing to play one- or two-touch football, we invited the opponent into tackles. That didn’t help us.”

Florian Kohfeldt: “It feels like a defeat. We definitely dropped two points today. For 20 minutes we probably played as well as we have all season. We completely shut them out and could have extended our lead even further. Then some of our players were perhaps trying too hard, with good intentions; either making a run too early or taking too long to get back into shape. Then suddenly we fell apart again. After they made it 2-1 we pushed higher up again in the second half, and started well. Then it went to 2-2 and the game was wide open again. We got ourselves back into the game and had some great chances through Milos and Josh. We’ll take the point and we’re now just three points behind Düsseldorf, even though they play on Sunday. If it comes to it we’ll have to save ourselves through the play off."

On Kapino’s performance

Stefanos Kapino: “It’s disappointing. We really wanted to get the three points but had to settle for the draw. It wasn’t easy for me to play again after such a long time but I think I played well. I will always give my all for Werder.”

Kevin Vogt: “I wasn’t worried about Kapi at all. We know what he can do and he’s very solid for us.”

Florian Kohfeldt: “Kapino played really well. He’s a very good back-up for Pavlenka.”
