It was an almost perfect performance from the Green-Whites against Borussia Mönchengladbach at the wohninvest WESERSTADION on Bundesliga Matchday 27. However, in the end they had to settle for just the point. There was one thing that certainly wasn’t missing from Florian Kohfeldt’s side on Tuesday evening: passion. “If we go into the last seven matches with this same mentality, I’m certain we will avoid relegation,” said Davy Klaassen.
Florian Kohfeldt: “We’ve earned a point against a top side. We didn’t park the bus, we earnt it. In my opinion the first half was 50-50, but the second half was 51-49 in our favour. Both teams had their chances, but we definitely had the better chances to win the game. Milot Rashica’s free kick, Davie Selke’s chance. We could have won the game, but we also could have lost. We’re happy with a point against Gladbach, even though we obviously could have won.”
Niklas Moisander: “Today was our best home performance of the season. It’s a shame that we weren’t rewarded for our efforts.”
Christian Groß: “Overall the result is a bit disappointing. Looking at how the game played out, it’s a shame that we didn’t win. But who knows just how important that point could be.”
Davy Klaassen: “We didn’t give much away today and had our own chances to win the game. It was a good game from us. What we did well for 25 minutes in Freiburg, we almost did for the entire game today. The win in Freiburg has given us confidence. In our situation every point is valuable. Looking at the game, I think we deserved more. But we’ll take the point.”
Frank Baumann: “Of course we would have liked to win all three points. However, we played well against a strong opponent today and almost won the game in the end.”
Florian Kohlfeldt: “Our job is to perform like that every week. Both teams played well today. So it was possible for us to play like that. When the opponent defends with a deep line, we have to set up differently. The most important thing is that we kept up the mentality from the past two matches. We have no time to waste. We have seven cup finals ahead of us.”
Davy Klassen: “We showed the same passion today as we did in Freiburg. It was an aggressive match. If we go into the last seven matches with this same mentality, I’m certain we will avoid relegation.”
Niklas Moisander: “We’re defending a lot better as a team and throwing ourselves into every tackle. We’re on the right track. We don’t have much time, but we’re ready for the battle.”
Davy Klaassen: “My feeling out on the pitch was that it was a penalty. Watching it back now, it’s a clear penalty for me. Perhaps the referee couldn’t see it out on the pitch, but the Video Assistant Referee has to be able to see it.”
Florian Kohfeldt: “Manuel Gräfe assessed the situation and decided not to give a penalty. Of course there was a bit of contact, but I accept the decision. I think that we should just accept it and not turn it into a big discussion afterwards.”
Frank Baumann: “The decision has been made. Of course, sometimes those are given but we have to accept it. How the game would’ve gone if the penalty had been given is just hypothetical.”
