Another away game, another draw, another spectacle! SV Werder nicked a hard-fought point right at the death and head into the international break with 8 points in the Bundesliga. “It was a fantastic game of football for the neutral fan, but not one of our better performances this season,” said Werder’s head coach Florian Kohfeldt after the final whistle in the Commerzbank-Arena.

On the match:

Florian Kohfeldt: “It was a fantastic game of football but not a great performance from my team. The first half was good. Frankfurt took the game to us in the first 20 to 30 minutes, as we expected. We managed to find a lot of space and were a threat on the counter. We had some good chances, like when Maxi hit the post, and managed to take the lead, although it wasn’t deserved. I’m not happy with how we played in the second half, we were far too passive and sloppy in our build-up play.”

Josh Sargent: “It was difficult to come here and play our game but in the end it worked out well. It was an important point for us because it was a really difficult game. We didn’t start well in the second half. At the end of the day we earned a point and that can be very important for us.”

Leo Bittencourt: “We had to fight hard today. We especially struggled in the second half. We’ll take the point but it could’ve been more so we aren’t happy. There was a lot of hustle and bustle on the pitch and we allowed ourselves to be affected by it; that was the problem.”

Milos Veljkovic: “It was an intense game. Although I’ve been out for a long time, I adapted to the game well. But it wasn’t easy. We were forced to play lots of long balls in the second half, which wasn’t the plan. Overall we are happy to at least be taking a point home.”

Frank Baumann: “Eintracht had the better of the game and created lots of chances. We were too passive for a lot of the match. We needed to be more composed on the ball. Nevertheless there are positives to take. We proved that we have a strong mentality, that we can fight as team and also come from behind. In addition we defended lots of corners really well. We know that we can play a lot better but at the end of the day it’s a good point to take against a strong side.”

On Davy Klaassen:

Leo Bittencourt: “He is a leader and he gives everything for the team. He has taken on the role as captain really well; he’s made for it. It’s a lot of fun to play with him because he is desperate to win every game – you can sense it on the pitch.”

Florian Kohfeldt: "Davy didn't have the best start to the season and missed a lot of chances. But now he's in fine form. If you watch the goal you can see his quality. Other midfielders might have waited to see if Leo or Josh had scored, but he kept going and the rebound fell to him. That's also how he won the penalty - he never stops pushing."

Josh Sargent: "He's our captain at the moment. He has unbelievable fighting spirit, which boosts the whole team. He's our most important player."

Milos Veljkovic: "Davy again gave everything today and believed we could get a point right until the end. He's just brilliant, world class!"

Milot Raschica: "Davy was 'Man of the Match' for me today with his goal and the penalty he won."

On the opening goal:

Florian Kohfeldt: "Josh's run in the lead up to the first goal was world class and exactly the sort of thing I want to see us keep doing. I thought it was over. Then I started to hope again and it was in"

Josh Sargent: "It was a good counterattack. Unfortunately I didn't manage to find the back of the net myself like I wanted, but then it was chaos. Thank God Davy scored in the end."

Leo Bittencourt: "Clearly it just didn't want to go in for me today. What's important is that it went in in the end."

Milos Veljkovic: "It was a roller coaster of emotions. First Maxi hit the post. Then Josh and Leo had chances and then Davy slotted it home."

On the penalty:

Florian Kohfeldt: “Davy is our penalty taker but he was down injured, so it was up to whoever felt confident. Milot stepped up to take the on the responsibility and put it away, so we’re very happy.”

Milot Rashica: “Normally Davy takes them, but I felt confident and was sure I’d score. I placed the ball on the spot and made it 2-2.”
