Werder Bremen are a team like no other, both on and off the pitch. Conviction, the joy of playing, courage, and the willingness to take risks are all characteristics of the club. These are all attitudes that Florian Kohfeldt has taken on board and worked on. And, despite a lot of draws recently, Werder still have a very clear goal in mind, as emphasised during the press conference on Thursday.
“We stand for something as a team,” said Kohfeldt ahead of the home game against Schalke 04 on Friday evening (20:30 CET). The “joy of playing and fluency that we have is what separates us from the other Bundesliga teams,” he added.
Under Kohfeldt, Werder want to play attractive, attacking football again. They managed this with some success in the Hinrunde. Werder’s eight games without a loss are also a sign of strength, even if that’s three wins and five draws. “We can play good football here and win on Friday, we know that,” added the boss.
Kohfeldt often emphasises that Werder have a chance against every team in the league. He also wants to see this confidence in the game against Schalke, and he believes that Werder will “be ready, when the game tilts in their direction.” The Green-Whites also need to keep up their “willingness to play and willingness to take risks. We won’t shoot ourselves in the foot, but we’ll take risks and play bravely.” If Werder carry on with these attitudes going forward, it won’t be long before their draws turn into wins.
