SV Werder currently have scored 13 goals this season, the fifth most in the league. Werder also have the most players who have scored, with the number being nine. The trend follows on the international stage. The Werder players showed how dangerous they were in attack for their respective countries with Yuya Osako, Josh Sargent and Jan-Niklas Beste all scoring for their teams.

The Japan national team beat Uruguay in a 4-3 goal fest. Yuya Osako started in the friendly against the South American team and scored in the 16th minute to put Japan 2-1 ahead against the World Cup quarter-finalists. It was Yuya’s 35th game for the club and his ninth goal on the international stage.

Bottom left, top left and a loss

While Osako already has lots of international games under his belt, Josh Sargent is just beginning his international career. The attacking midfielder played his fifth game for the USA last night and scored in their 1-1 draw against Peru. The US coach Dave Sarachan picked the number 19 in his starting XI and it paid dividends as the youngster drilled a shot into the bottom left corner of the goal.

Jan-Niklas Beste, the young left-back helped the Germany U20 team beat Switzerland 3-2. The Werder youngster scored an absolute belter, rifling the ball into the top left corner of the net, leaving the Swiss goalkeeper with no chance. In his second appearance for the DFB junior team, he not only scored his first goal but also played the full ninety minutes.

However, it was not a successful evening for Jiri Pavlenka and Theodor Gebre Selassie. The Czech Republic lost 1-0 to Ukraine in their UEFA Nations League as both players played the full ninety for their nation. The defeat leaves the Czech Republic on three points in Group 1 in League B.

Eggestein starts, Kainz comes on at half-time

In the last U21 UEFA Euro qualifier, Johannes Eggestein was in the starting XI for Germany. Stefan Kuntz’s team had already qualified last week for the U21 Euros in Italy having beaten Ireland 2-0. His brother Maximilian was on the bench for the game.

Florian Kainz was also on the bench for Austria but came on at half-time. It was his twelfth international career cap but he was unable to prevent Austria from losing 2-0 to the Danes.

Ludwig Augustinsson and Felix Beijmo were both unused substitutes. The Werder left-back sat on the bench as Sweden drew 1-1 with Slovakia in a friendly whilst the Sweden U21 right-back suffered a 3-0 defeat to Belgium. The Swedish youngsters are in the playoffs for qualifying for the Euros.
