Jiri Pavlenka and Theodor Gebre Selassie suffered a humbling 5-0 defeat at the hands of England at Wembley on Friday evening. Felix Beijmo and Joshua Sargent were also had difficutl days with their international teams. WERDER.DE recaps all the action.

Games at the legendary Wembley stadium are supposed to be special occasions, but neither Jiri Pavlenka nor Theo Gebre Selassie will look back on this visit with the Czech Republich with fond memories. Both players started in defence against an England side filled with attacking talent. Raheem Sterling opened the scoring in the 24th minute, before Harry Kane doubled the lead shortly before the break. The Three Lions continued in their hunt for goals in the second half and Sterling completed a hat-trick with two quick-fire goals in the 62nd and 68th minute. An unfortunate own goal from Tomas Kala completed a sorry defeat for the Czech side. 

 

The USA U23s faced Egypt U23s in a friendly on Friday in the Spanish town of Pinatar. Joshua Sargent began the game on the bench and watched on as the Egyptians took a 1-0 lead into the break. The Werder youngster was introduced in the second half, but was unable to help his side, conceded a second and decisive goal in the 80th minute. 

Meanwhile in Marbella, Sweden's U21s met Russia in a friendly. Felix Beijmo also started on the bench as the Russians opened the scoring through Ivan Ignatev. Beijmo was introduced in the 67th minute, his team now 2-0 down, and was unable to help his side rescue a result.
