+++ Training camp underway: The Green-Whites arrived on Monday, having to get off to an early 7:30 start in order to make it to their rooms in Schneverdingen by the late afternoon, where the second training camp of their pre-season takes place. An intense week of training lies ahead of them, rounded off with two friendlies against West Ham in Schneverdingen. Izet Hajrovic returns to the Werder squad to join them at the camp, and is expected to take part in the majority of training exercises. Other faces joining the Werder regulars are U23 players Leon Jensen and Dominic Volkmer, as well as U19 player Julian Rieckmann +++

+++ Birthday boys: Two Werder icons celebrated their birthday recently, with Werder board member Marco Bode turning 48 on Sunday, and midfield maestro Johan Micoudm, who was a part of the Werder side that won the double in 2004, celebrates his 44th birthday today. A belated happy birthday to you, Marco, and we hope you have a great day, Le Chef! +++

+++ Top ten: Werder’s Max Kruse made the top ten in the vote for Germany’s Footballer of the Year. German sport journalists from across the country voted in the poll, organized by Kicker, with Kruse receiving a total of 24 votes, thanks to his 15 goals and 7 assists last season. Respect, Max! +++

+++ Würzburg’s weekend: Last week saw the Würzburger Kickers – who SV Werder will face in the first round of the DFB-Pokal – kick off their 3. Liga campaign with a 2-2 draw against SV Meppen. However, before we take on Würzburg on 12/08/2017 at 20:45 CEST, our own U23s will face the side, who were relegated from the 2. Bundesliga at the end of last year, first. Enis Bytyqi also joined Würzburg at the start of the season. Following an opening-day win against SpVgg Unterhaching, Werder’s U23s can make the journey to play the Franken outfit with confidence. +++

+++ Schneverdingen schedule: The Werder players have their second training camp of the pre-season ahead of them, after arriving on Monday. Now, the Green-Whites will be taking part in several intensive training sessions until Friday. They’re scheduled to depart for home on Monday, with at most two extra sessions planned between then and Friday. +++

Monday: Arrival (no open training session)

Tuesday: 10:00 (closed), 16:00 (open)

Wednesday: 10:00 (closed), 16:00 (closed)

Thursday: 10:00 (closed), 16:00 (open)

Friday: 10:00 (open), 18:30 SV Werder vs. West Ham (Schneverdingen)

Saturday: 10:00 recovery session, 15:30 West Ham vs. SV Werder (Lohne)
