Max Kruse: “In the first half, Augsburg had no answers and we fully deserved the 2-0 lead going in at the break. We didn't afforded them any room and really showed our quality, which was exactly what the coach wanted. Then we sort of let go of that in the second half but fortunately we managed to get the decisive goal and seal the victory.”
Maximilian Eggestein: “We played exactly as we wanted to in the first 45. We occupied good spaces and made the most of our chances. In the second half, we lost a lot of second balls and Augsburg showed how good a side they are. With Gregoritsch’s free-kick we were massively thankful to Jiri for keeping that one out to prevent the equaliser. At the end of the day, we walked away deserved winners I think.”
Sebastian Langkamp: “We played really well throughout the game. The first half was great to be a part of but the score at half time was a bit deceptive. Like the game in Gladbach when we went in 2-0 down, in this league it’s never over. We didn’t do that well when they put us under pressure in the second half but our goal came at the right time and I think despite being under the cosh at times, we fully deserved the win.”
Florian Kohfeldt: “The first half was great. We linked up well and played with good, short passes. We created a lot of goal-scoring opportunities and didn’t let Augsburg settle. At the same time, we also looked tight at the back. The boys showed everything I wanted them to and executed it nearly perfectly. At times in the second half I was frustrated; Augsburg definitely improved but we weren’t clinical enough on the counter. We left a few goals out there but that period of the game was relatively short.”
Frank Baumann: “I have rarely seen two halves the same in my career, even when one team is so dominant in the first. Augsburg got themselves back into the game in the second half, like we did in against Gladbach. At the end of the day, you’ve got to say that the team with the greater chances should walk away the victors and today that was us.”
