After two intense Bundesliga fixtures, the first international break of the current season is here. For some Werder first team players, this means joining up with their national squads to fight for qualification to the World Cup finals. WERDER.DE gives an overview of all players who have been called up.

The first player in action is Ludwig Augustinsson. The Sweden international is playing this Thursday 31st August against Bulgaria in Sofia. The game kicks off at 20:45 CEST. On Sunday 3rd September (18:00 CEST), Augustinsson will play in his second away fixture of the break against Belarus in Barysaw.

In the German U21s, both Maximilian and Johannes Eggestein have been selected to the squad for the first time by head coach Stefan Kuntz. They will face Hungary in Paderborn for a friendly before the European Championship qualifying clash with Kosovo in Osnabruck. After their first competitive Werder game together for the first team in the first round of the DFB Pokal, the two brothers can now also celebrate a first appearance in a DFB shirt.

Thomas Delaney will start the international break with a home game. On Friday 1st September 2017, Delaney and Denmark will face Poland at 20:45 CEST in Copenhagen. Werder’s number 6 will then travel with the Danish squad for their next fixture against Armenia, which will take place in Yerevan on Monday 4th September at 22:00 CEST.

Whereas Thomas Delaney and Ludwig Augustinsson are the sole Werder presences in their respective national teams, Theodor Gebre Selassie and Jiri Pavlenka will represent the Green-Whites as a pair. On Friday 1st September 2017, they will try to cause an upset over Confederations Cup champions Germany. The game will kick off at 20:45 CEST in Prague. The pair will finish off the international break with an away trip to Belfast to face Northern Ireland.

Due to Werder captain Zlatko Junuzovic unfortunately nursing an injury, Florian Kainz will travel with the Austrian national squad alone. Apart from an away fixture with Wales in Cardiff (2nd September, 20:45 CEST), the attacker will also face Georgia in a home game in Vienna (5th September, 20:45 CEST).

Ulisses Garcia will represent the Swiss U21 sqaud. They will face Wales at home in Bien for a European Championship qualifier on 1st September (19:00 CEST). One day later, they will meet with Romania in Ovidiu at 19:00 CEST.
