+++Competition for places: On Friday afternoon, 22 players took part in the final training session ahead of the match against SC Freiburg. But of course, not all of these players can feature in the match. Competition for places is heating up at Werder. Even Fin Bartels is competing with Serge Gnabry and Izet Hajrovic for his place in the team. “It’s a good thing for the team that we have so many players competing for places. I ‘m having to work a bit harder than last season for my usual position but it’s certainly spurring me on,” said Bartels in the pre-match press conference.

+++Two upfront? Alexander Nouri has not ruled out the possibility of playing two upfront against SC Freiburg. Earlier this week, Jóhannsson expressed that he would like to play alongside someone up top. Alexander Nouri gave his opinion on this during the pre-match press conference on Thursday. “We were focusing on staying compact in defence with our 4-1-4-1 formation. However I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of playing in a new formation as long as we stick to our basic tactics,” explained Werder manager Alexander Nouri. However, Nouri has plenty of attacking options for the match on Saturday. “Lennart Thy and Jojo Eggestein could feature. Everyone has the opportunity to impress the coaching staff."

+++ Captain of the 2009 Cup success: Markus Rosenberg wore the Green-White jersey between 2007 and 2012, netting 40 goals in this period and lifting the DFB Cup in 2009. The Swede also won titles with his home-town club Malmö FF, where he returned two years ago. This week, Malmö clinched their domestic title with an away win, which is “Rosi’s” second since 2014. “It feels as good as two years ago. Winning the title is always a beautiful feeling,” said Rosenburg to Swedish TV. If any of you are wondering how Malmö have already won the title, it’s because the Swedish league runs from March until November due to the long winter. +++
