A good first half, a quick equaliser after the break and in the end, the fourth loss in a row for Werder. Conceding a last-minute winner cost Werder Bremen vital points. It’s especially difficult to take when the last-minute winning goal was scored by 18-year old Aymen Barbok on his debut. However, the Werder players know what they have to work on before the derby against Hamburg next weekend.
Werder.de spoke to the manager and players after the final whistle to get their reactions on the game.
Alexander Nouri: "We are disappointed with the result. We played very well in the first half and deserved to take the lead. We were punished for our mistakes when Eintracht scored in the 52nd minute. Afterwards we had a few good chances to make the game ours but we didn’t manage to convert them. We lost the ball too easily in the 90th minute which led to Eintracht’s winner. It was painful and it shows that you have to stay focused for the full 90 minutes in the Bundesliga."
Florian Grillitsch: "It hurts that we lost the game in the final minute and we have come away with no points. We did everything right in the first half, but we lost control of the game after the break. We were often second to the ball. Eintracht have enough quality to take advantage of that."
Niklas Moisander: "It was a difficult match for us. At half-time we told ourselves to carry on playing like we had in the first half. We completely lost our confidence after the equaliser."
Max Kruse: "You have to perform well over both halves if you want to beat an opponent like Frankfurt. We didn’t stay close enough to our markers in the second half. I lost the ball in a stupid position which led to their second goal. We had a bit of bad luck that they managed to score from that chance so late on."
Niklas Moisander: "The return of these three players is very important for us. You could see the quality that they bring to the team."
Max Kruse: "I think that we created a good few goal scoring opportunities. Claudio Pizarro and I want to start creating problems for every team’s defence. However we still have to improve, both attackingly and defensively."
Frank Baumann: "They bring a lot of quality to the team but they still need time. They will help the team a lot if they continue to feature."
Alexander Nouri: “It was nice to see Claudio, Max and Philipp all play well today. We are happy that they are back, but we still need to give them some time."
Niklas Moisander: "The next few games are unbelievably important. We have to get our confidence back, these games are really important for the rest of our season. We have to win them both, there is no other option."
Alexander Nouri: "Of course we don’t want to be in this situation, but we have to work hard to get our confidence back. I believe in the team and I am fully convinced that we can do better. We have to work on minimising our mistakes."
Florian Grillitsch: "If you’re not motivated for a derby, then you don’t love football. It will be a really difficult game for us. We have to work hard in training now and take the positives out of today’s first half. If we do this, anything is possible in Hamburg."
