Max Kruse returns to the Weser

Germany international Max Kruse has returned to Werder Bremen. The 28-year old, who played for the club between 2006 and 2009 has transferred from VfL Wolfsburg with immediate effect. The news was confirmed by sporting director Frank Baumann on Tuesday afternoon. Kruse had completed a medical prior to the announcement. The clubs have agreed not to disclose the details of the move.  

 “We are extremely happy that Max spoke with conviction about returning to Werder. He is a player, who has developed amazingly and has proven his quality at both club and international level,” said Frank Baumann. Head coach Viktor Skripnik is also looking forward to working with the new recruit: “Max is versatile in attack and offers another option for us. We have followed his preparation so far and we are sure that he will be able to have a presence on the pitch immediately. We are happy that he is once again a Werder player.”  

The return to his first professional club is an important step for Kruse’s sontinuing career: “My life revolves around football and there are the perfect conditions in Bremen for me to get going again. My conversations with Frank Baumann convinced me that we can create something great here again. I am excited about the club. I followed my instinct an my heart with this transfer. Werder have given me another chance to play in the Bundesliga after having already given me my first game in the Bundesliga. I want to help the team return to become as strong as it used to be. I am massively happy that the transfer has been completed. I will give everything for my new club and new team,” commented Kruse. 

Kruse was born in Reinbeck and moved to SV Werder from SC Vier and Marschlande when he was an U19 player. He made appearances for St Pauli, SC Freiburg, Borussia Mönchengladbach and most recently Wolfsburg following his three years at Werder Bremen. Kruse made a total of 166 appearances in the Bundesliga during this time scoring 42 goals and assisting 43. He also turned out nine time in the Champions League (two goals) and seven times in the Europa League. He has played 14 times for Germany scoring four goals.
