It’s a done deal – Marvin Ducksch will continue his journey with SV Werder Bremen. The 29-year-old feels at home at the wohninvest WESERSTADION and is happy to finally have put any rumours about his future to rest. “It was always clear to me that I wanted to carry on at Werder,” Ducksch told WERDER.TV. “The team has developed a fantastic spirit over the last couple of years and I’m just pleased that I will continue to be a part of that.”

Marvin Ducksch used the summer break to recharge his batteries in Mallorca. Nevertheless, headlines about interest in him from other clubs continued to pop up. The Dortmund-born striker is happy that he’s now able to fully focus on his football as preparations for the new season begin. “Werder was always my number one priority,” insists Ducksch. “The extension may have taken a little time, but both sides are happy in the end. I can’t wait to get back up and running.”

Ducksch’s two years with SVW have seen him secure promotion to the Bundesliga and enjoy his best ever season on a personal level, getting twelve goals and seven assists in 2022/23. After his youth club Borussia Dortmund, his spell at Werder will become the longest of his professional career. “It says a lot about the club that I feel at home here,” revealed our number 7. “I don’t have far to travel to see my family and I think that we can really build something special here.”

Ducksch believes in the team’s prospects

The prospect of the team continuing their development is something that was a crucial part of Ducksch’s decision to pen a new deal. After a tricky start during a period of instability, he fully identifies with the style of the team under head coach Ole Werner. “The playing philosophy suits me well,” explained Ducksch, who has 65 Bundesliga appearances under his belt. “As time went on, everyone fully understood how we wanted to play, and I feel like I fit into that system really well.”

Ducksch certainly made his mark last season, not least with his brace in Mönchengladbach and a hat-trick away at Hertha, but the 29-year-old still has plenty to give in green and white: “I’m by no means done yet. I think that I’ve got more in my locker,” smiled Ducksch. “Now it’s about getting myself at a good level during preseason and being able to pick up where I left off last season. I’m confident that I’ll be able to do that.”
