Leonardo Bittencourt was in great spirits as he spoke in the Mixed Zone on Wednesday afternoon. The 28-year-old midfielder explained that it “wasn’t a difficult decision” to extend his contract with the Green-Whites.
Just a few hours before speaking to the media, it had been announced that Leonardo Bittencourt had extended his contract with Werder. Bittencourt, who was on a real high after this morning’s news, emphasised the fact that he knew he had made the right decision. “My family and I feel really happy here. I really identify with Werder and I am really looking forward to extending my stay at such a great club.”
Bittencourt also emphasised how he had made the right decision in terms of the sporting side of things: “We had two difficult years but with all the euphoria that came with the promotion, I got the feeling that we have grown together here and that we can continue to make progress.”
Despite last weekend’s disappointing result, Bittencourt is still convinced that Werder are on the right path: “We didn’t get what we wanted last week but it won’t dampen our spirits. It has always been our goal to strive for our best and this is what we are working towards. We still need to be patient and we cannot get ahead of ourselves. We knew that would be difficult at times. On Friday we want to get back into the groove with a victory.”
