As part of SV Werder Bremen’s efforts to grow its international audience, the club hosted two Vietnamese influencers, Phat Freestyle and Vu Manh Tuyen, in Bremen this weekend. They are two of the biggest sport influences to come out of the Southeast Asian country, having millions of followers between them. Together with the Economic Development Agency for Bremen (WFB Wirtschaftsförderung Bremen GmbH) and in co-operation with Schächter Sports, the social-media stars had an unforgettable trip to Bremen as they got to know the city and the club a little better.

“We were really happy to be able to welcome Phat and Tuyen to our city. We’d already worked with Phat in Vietnam and reached a really important target audience thanks to the collaboration. During their visit, we aimed to give both of them a special insight into the world of Werder and to show people in Vietnam what it feels like to be a Werder fan, especially on a Bundesliga matchday,” said Dominik Kupilas, who is responsible for international outreach in his role as the Green-Whites’ director of fan and business development.

Meeting with Vogt, Filbry, and Keita

During their visit to the Green-Whites’ training complex, Phat Freestlye and Vu Manh Tuyen both produced a lot of photo and video content for Werder’s international channels, in particular SVW’s Vietnamese Facebook page. They played football tennis and spoke with players and club representatives. “We’re very proud of the exciting content that they created with players like Nick Woltemade, Justin Njinmah and Naby Keita, as well as during their discussions with Klaus Filbry and Hubertus Hess-Grunewald,” said Kupilas.

A number of young players had the unique opportunity to train with four-time Vietnamese freestyle football champion Phat Freestyle at a football camp in Bremen. He delighted the crowd of participants with some unbelievable skills and tricks in a very entertaining training session. He then showed off his talents in front of over 42,000 spectators at the wohninvest WESERSTADION during the half-time break of Werder’s Bundesliga match against Eintracht Frankfurt. Phat was also interviewed by SVW’s stadium announcer Arnd Ziegler.

“We’ll never forget the time we’ve spent here”

“This week has been an unforgettable experience and we’ll never forget the time we’ve spent here. Werder are an unbelievable club and we’re very grateful for this amazing opportunity. The atmosphere in the stadium and the matchday experience as a whole were once in a lifetime experiences for us, as well as the variety of activities we did in the city. We’re looking forward to future collaborations in Vietnam and Bremen, as well as helping the club grow its fanbase in Vietnam and Asia as a whole,” said the influencers about their memorable trip.

The Vietnamese pair also met with Bremen’s economic minister, Kristina Vogt, which was arranged by the WFB Wirtschaftsförderung Bremen GmbH. “Football connects people. The fact that these two football influencers have come to visit Bremen shows the sport’s power to unify people and create a collective identity. We’ve not only been able to present the sporting side of Bremen, but also the city as an attractive destination for tourists and businesses. We’ve also managed to reach an audience of millions of Vietnamese people,” stated Andreas Heyer, CEO of the WFB.

Heyer went on to say: “The Werder Bremen brand’s glittering reputation among football fans helps us to market Bremen as an international business hub. Vietnam is one of the main countries as far as our foreign outreach is concerned, so it’s a high priority for us. That’s why we’re especially excited that, thanks to our overseas brand Bremeninvest and our office in Ho-Chi-Minh city, we’ll be able to support SV Werder Bremen in their future efforts to drum up support for the club in Southeast Asia.”

A delegation of representatives from SV Werder, Schächter Sports and the WFB will visit Vietnam to represent the Bundesliga at the end of November.
