Oelschlägel on standby for the Olympics

Werder’s young goalkeeper Eric Oelschlägel may well be taking part in the 2016 Olympic Games for Germany in Rio de Janeiro. The 20-year-old has been put on standby, according to a statement from the DFB on Friday afternoon.             

The football tournament of the 31st Olympic Games will take place from 3rd to 20th August in seven stadiums around Brazil. The Germany Olympic team, coached by Horst Hrubesch, face three days preparation in Frankfurt from 28th July, before flying to Salvador. There they will face 2012 gold-medal winners Mexico in their first Group C match in the Fonte Nova Arena on 4th August (22:00 CEST). The second group game will also take place in Salvador on 7th August (21:00 CEST), where the team face South Korea. The third match takes place on 10th August (21:00 CEST) at the Belo Horizonte against Fiji. Potential quarter and semi-finals will be on 13th and 17th  August, with the final on 20th August in the Maracanã in Rio de Janeiro.
