SV Werder Bremen have added Mitchell Weiser to their ranks on the final day of the summer transfer window. The 27-year-old joins on a season-long loan from Bundesliga side Bayer 04 Leverkusen.
“The option to sign Mitchell on loan came up on short notice. He is an experienced Bundesliga player that can feature on the wing, both in attack and in defence, and will be able to quickly have an impact here,” said Werder sporting director Frank Baumann.
Mitchell Weiser is looking forward to joining the Green-Whites. “I’m very happy that we were able to get things finalised before the window closed. Werder are still a big club, in my opinion,” he said. “I’m very happy about this challenge and want to play as many games as possible here. I already know a few of the guys, in Leo, Marvin and Marco. I think that we have a solid team that is capable of achieving the goals the club have set forth.”
Mitchell Weiser began his playing career at TVE Veltenhof, before joining the 1. FC Köln academy in 2005. He then made the move to FC Bayern München in 2012, where he won three Bundesliga titles and two DFB-Pokal titles. Weiser then joined 1. FC Kaiserslautern on loan, before spells at both Hertha BSC and Bayer 04 Leverkusen. Weiser won the U21 EUROs with Germany in 2017, and has made 140 Bundesliga appearances (9 goals) and featured in 13 Bundesliga 2 matches (2 goals).
