After announcing Felix Agu’s contract extension just a few weeks ago, SV Werder Bremen have agreed another deal with a key first-team player. Romano Schmid has signed an early contract extension with the Green-Whites.
“Romano has become a key part of our team. You can really feel that he’s fully settled in at Werder. We are completely satisfied with his development and are certain that he still has more potential left to explore. We want to continue working to unearth this, and are pleased that he sees a future for himself at Werder,” said Clemens Fritz, head of first-team football and scouting.
“I’m very happy that Romano will remain at Werder. I have gotten to know him over the past months, and he’s someone who wants to continue to grow and develop, both on and off the pitch. As a player, you can tell he’s the type that always wants to win, no matter if it’s in training or in games, but he’s also laidback at the same time. It’s just fun to watch him,” said head coach Ole Werner.
Schmid also can't wait to remain in Bremen, saying “I’m very much looking forward to it. I have always felt very at home here. I love the city, the fans, the surroundings and the club. The key factor for me was the fact that the club and the team have a lot they want to accomplish, and I think that I can be a big part of that.”
Romano Schmid joined SV Werder Bremen in 2019 from RB Salzburg, and was immediately loaned out to Wolfsberger AC. He featured for the club in the Austrian Bundesliga and Europa League, before returning to Bremen in 2020. Schmid has made 22 Bundesliga appearances for the Green-Whites, along with 26 second-division games (3 goals).
