Werder Bremen have completed their second transfer of the summer. Nicolai Rapp is joining SVW from Bundesliga side Union Berlin, following an agreement reached between the two clubs. The versatile defender spent the last season on loan at Darmstadt 98.

"Nicolai has made great progress under Markus Anfang in Darmstadt. He’s a very hard-working, versatile player who know the second division very well and has potential for more," said Frank Baumann.

Nicolai is excited about his new challenge: "When the call came from Werder I knew I wanted to go. Werder is a big club, even in the second division, one that I have always followed in the past. We’ve got an exciting season ahead of us, the second division is tough, but I get the sense that everyone here is ready for it, hopefully with fans behind us again. I’m just looking forward to what lies ahead."

The 24-year-old has picked up 105 appearances in the Bundesliga 2 for Greuther Fürth, Erzgebirge Aue, Union Berlin and most recently for Darmstadt 98, scoring three goals in the process. He played the vast majority of his games at either centre-back or holding midfield.
